NAISS Large spring 2026 call¶
This will be the first Large round in which applicants can submit proposals directly for the new Arrhenius resource. Since Alvis and Tetralith will be decommissioned on 1 July, it will not be possible to request allocations on these systems. In this round, Dardel will also be scheduled for decommissioning on 1 January 2027, and will be replaced by Arrhenius. Active projects running on Dardel will be migrated to the new system. Further information about the migration process will be provided at a later stage.
Deadline
The deadline to submit a proposal for the Large Spring 2026 call is 21 April 2026 at 15:00 CEST.
News¶
-
NAISS has changed the structure of application rounds. NAISS no longer has separate compute, storage, and sensitive data application rounds. It is now possible to apply for compute resources, storage resources and resources for sensitive data in the same proposal.
-
To encourage our largest users to apply for EuroHPC resources, there are now upper limits on the capacity you can request in this Large round.
-
The project publication lists for earlier NAISS projects should not be included as text in the uploaded Activity Report PDFs. Instead, you register publications resulting from the projects (and acknowledging the use of NAISS resources) via DOIs in SUPR. This will enable NAISS to better present the large scientific output resulting from the use of our resources. The publication list you include as part of the Large proposal itself is still uploaded as a PDF.
-
Financial support is now entered in a table with a row for each grant or similar instead of being a free-text field.
-
You now have to acknowledge that NAISS storage resources are to be used for active data only. You have to continuously remove non-active data during the allocation period. In your data management plan you have to declare how you will handle your data after the allocation has ended.
-
We encourage users to apply for all their needs in a single proposal. NAISS recognises that there may be special cases which might require more than one proposal, for example if an applicant has a need to handle both sensitive and non-sensitive data, but access to the sensitive data should be restricted to a subset of co-investigators. A request for any such exception should be clearly motivated in the proposals.
Due to the changes described above, you might need to allocate a bit more time than usual this year to complete your proposal.
Who is eligible to apply?¶
To apply, you have to be a researcher with an established track record of using HPC efficiently for your projects, with resource requirements that exceed the limits of what can be applied for in the Medium application rounds.
The PI is responsible for the proposal and usage of any granted resources. You cannot be a PI for compute resources in a Medium project and compute resources in a Large project simultaneously. If you are already the PI for a Medium project with compute resources they will be terminated if you are granted a Large allocation.
You must be at least an assistant professor at an eligible Swedish institution. NAISS is financed by Swedish tax payers with the objective to strengthen science and research in Sweden. To apply for these resources, the PI must therefore hold an appointment of at least 60 percent at a Swedish university or research institution recognised by the Swedish Research Council.
The research supported by these resources must be predominantly carried out in Sweden. This aspect is taken into account during the evaluation and, in the case of strong competition, can be used to prioritise applications. Additionally, the applicant must have experience from using HPC resources at least at the Medium level, or a corresponding level abroad.
How to register a proposal¶
Register your proposal via the Swedish User and Project Repository (SUPR) website.
If you have compute and storage projects for the same research then you should clone/continue the existing compute project (not the storage project), and then request both compute and storage in the new combined NAISS Large proposal. On the Directory Name page of the combined proposal, you should then select 'Take over directory name "DIRECTORYNAME" from project NAISS YYYY/NN-NN' where the project refers to your old storage project.
Project information¶
When registering a proposal in SUPR you must always provide the following basic information:
- Project title
- Affiliation - name of university/institute or similar
- Abstract - a project abstract in English
- Classification - according to Research Council classification codes
For Large Compute projects you also have to upload three separate PDF files with the following:
- The CV of the PI. Maximum 2 pages.
- A publication list of the PI.
- A project description. Please respect maximum page limits for all sections. Below is a summary of what should be included. If it is an updated version of the document from an earlier proposal, please highlight changes. Detailed instructions are here and in SUPR when clicking the "Add Project Description" button in the proposal registration form.
Activity report¶
If you have previously been granted NAISS resources, you have to upload activity reports for those projects to be eligible for new allocations. Include an explanation for any major deviations from the originally planned usage.
Review and notification of results¶
The review process commences after the allocations round has closed. Proposals are subject to scientific and technical review. Scientific review is performed by NAC and external evaluators, while technical review is performed by NAC WG (the NAC Working Group).
Decisions about the Large Spring 2026 rounds will be announced by email in May.
